Welcome to the Vintage Tap and Swing website. Edinburgh-based dancer Cathy Harrison would like to invite you to join her for some fun classes and workshops in Lindy Hop, Charleston and much more. Cathy has been dancing forever, and has experience in tap, jazz and all the main swing dances. From beginner to advanced, you'll find something to suit you here. Enjoy!

St Louis Shag Workshop –
14th November
We're delighted to be teaching a St. Louis Shag workshop for Edinbop. St. Louis Shag is a fun swing dance that originated in St. Louis, Missouri, during the 1930s. Very different from Collegiate Shag, it's packed with sharp kicks, triple steps and stomps. You can easily combine it with dancing Lindy Hop and Charleston. The workshop will be suitable for beginner dancers.
Over three hours we will introduce you to the basic concepts and moves of St. Louis Shag, building up the complexity as the workshop progresses. We'll also teach how to bring St Louis Shag into your Lindy and Charleston dancing. After the class, there'll be some time for practising and social dancing.

Fabulous Followers – Part 1
5th December
A two hour workshop focussed on followers. With a deep dive into technique, adding adornments (maybe a slick swivel or killer twist) we will look at improving your following skills. Good following is all about identifying your 'sweet spot' in a dance in which to add variations without interrupting the flow between you and your partner. The venue is a lovely space with wooden floor and use of the kitchen if you'd like a tea or coffee.
Where? Pentland Community Centre, Oxgangs Brae, Edinburgh.
When? Saturday 5th December 2026 from 10:15 until 12:15.
How much? £17 per person (with discount for Tuesday class regulars).

Lindy Hop –
Improvers/ Intermediate
We teach Lindy Hop classes on Tuesdays suitable for improver/intermediate dancers and above. You must know 8 beat footwork patterns and basic moves such as the Lindy Turn, Swingout, Lindy Circle, Texas Tommy, etc.
Where? North Merchiston Club
When? Tuesdays, 6:00-7:30pm. We had a break over the summer but started back on 6th October for a four week block of classes.
How much? £30 (£26 concessions) per person for the four week block.

Lindy Hop – Beginners
We had a break from Beginners' Lindy Hop classes for a while to allow Tap Dance classes to go ahead. However Beginners' Lindy Hop is back for a six week block starting on 10th September. Do get in touch if you are interested — email vtasevents@gmail.com

Tap Dance
Following the Tap Classes in May and June we're now taking a break but we're looking at opportunities for some workshops later in the year.
